CAT AIDS - What is it?

· Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a virus which aggressively attacks the cat’s immune system, making it susceptible to a range of infections.

· Up to one in five Australian cats may be infected.

· Minor symptoms such as loss of appetite, diarrhoea, lethargy and gingivitis may soon turn nasty, resulting in many vet visits, even death.

· Spread – primarily through fight wounds.

· Predominantly affects male cats over 2 years and outdoor cats.

· FIV is not contagious to humans.

· FIV may now be prevented with a new vaccine, if blood tests are negative.

· Sadly there is no treatment or cure for a FIV infected cat.

· Blood tests are available during consult, giving you immediate peace of mind.
