Excessive grooming in cats

Cats take great care to keep themselves looking good, but sometimes can “overdo it”.

As a cats tongue is very rough, excessive grooming may result in small scabs or sores, especially along the back, scratching can also become excessive in these areas.

Causes:

Fleas – cats can be allergic

Did you know? – if you look around the tail for fleas you may find tiny black specs of dirt (flea droppings) and if these specs are added to a little water a red stain will appear as the flea dirt consists of dry blood.

Grooming can also become obsessive (like biting nails), so ensure your cat is not “stressed” and is treated with a reliable flea product.
