Gastrointestinal disorders

 

(Tummy upsets)

Gastrointestinal disorders are one of the top three reasons your pet may require a visit to the Vet.

Pets of any age may suffer from these disorders; PANCREATITIS in particular should be treated immediately:

Symptoms:

· Lethargic

· Abdominal pain

· Vomiting / diarrhea / increased stools and flatulence

· Weight loss with NO decrease in food intake (common in cats)

Risk factors:

· Breed (miniature, schnauzer, miniature poodle, cocker spaniel, Siamese cats)

· More predominant in females

· Age 7 years +

· Obesity

· High fat foods (scraps) and rich foods

Treatment:

· Hospitalization

· Nil orally

· Specific low fat diet

· Weight reduction if obese
