Reptiles
Lizards, turtles and snakes are rapidly growing in popularity; being” cold-blooded” they have special requirements.
Here a few pointers:
· Housing – large aquariums are suitable for smaller species, cover floor with large gravel, wood chips or shredded newspaper, hollow logs to hide.
· Shallow water dish that can’t be tipped over, for turtles a small pond should be provided.
· Heat source eg lamp, heating pad – place at one end of the enclosure to provide a temperature gradient.
· UV light – especially important for those animals kept inside.
· Feeding – most can be fed snails, crickets, mealworms etc. Calcium supplements are recommended.
· Do not to overfeed; 3 - 5 times a week is adequate.
