At Eastwood Vets Ballarat we provide our clients with an emergency service for critical illness or injury. This means that in an emergency, especially after-hours, please telephone us on our normal contact number to speak to the receptionist (business hours) or follow the prompts to speak to the vet on call afterhours. Please note that the Clinic is not open 24 hours a day and the on call vet will need to organise a time to meet you at the Clinic for any after hours emergencies. We hope your pet never needs us for an emergency however, common emergencies relate to car accidents, heart conditions, poisoning and a range of injuries.
Upon arrival, your pet will be assessed by one of our veterinarians. We will aim to provide an estimate of the costs involved with your case, however, please be aware that with emergency procedures costs can vary depending on what services and treatments are required. Our veterinarians will keep you updated regularly during the course of your pet's stay in hospital. In some cases we may need to refer to a veterinary specialist centre or 24-hour emergency facility, especially for those patients requiring constant monitoring after-hours.
CHANGES TO OUR AFTER-HOURS SERVICES AS OF FEBRUARY 2021
As valued clients, we need to inform you of the changes that have been made to our after-hours service.
Over the past few years, a number of local veterinary practices have made the decision not to offer their clients an after-hours service. This has resulted in a substantial increase in demand for our vets after close of business.
As many of you may have seen in recent ABC and Win News, there is a national veterinary shortage of which we are not immune to. Staff at our veterinary clinic are working hard to service clients, however this increase in demand placed on us by other clinics and the shortage of vets is leading to increased pressure, both physically and emotionally.
As a result of these pressures on our staff, we have had to make some changes to the way we do things and especially with our after-hours service. These decisions have been made in the best interest of our vets, whilst still providing an after-hours service to our clients.
Our veterinary clinics will continue to provide an after-hours service to clients registered to Eastwood Vets between the hours of 6.30pm - midnight on weekdays and 8am - midnight on weekends.
After midnight, we have made arrangements with an emergency clinic in Melbourne (Advanced Vetcare 03 9092 0400) that can take calls and help if you have an emergency with your pet.
We hope you understand these changes are necessary so we can continue to provide you and your pets the compassionate personalised veterinary care you are used to now and into the future.
